Background

Laurence Grainger is an experienced corporate consultant and company director. He successfully provides services in corporate rescue, management consultancy, corporate finance, strategy development and the management of change. He has particular knowledge of the financial services, property investment and energy sectors and is a founding director of an oil investment company.

 

Laurence has worked in many developing countries as an accountant and financial consultant and has experience of Inward Direct Investment programmes. He has also been involved in putting together innovative Private Finance Initiative (PFI) deals and public / private partnerships.

Advising a Scottish electronics company on the logistical, structural, and corporate finance aspects of expansion into the United States and Hungary, and introducing the company to a suitable, experienced individual who has already set up electronic plants in China on behalf of a major multinational.

For a Scottish heavy engineering company, operated on behalf of the Banks and, ultimately, the employee group. Successfully turned around this insolvent group, managed it and increased profitability for 4 years. Ultimately sold entity to MBO team.

Corporate Planning

North Sea Oil Industry

 

Successfully assembled management team, raised investment and implemented a buy-out opportunity in the North Sea Oil Industry.

Government Policy Review

HM Treasury/Inland Revenue

 

Member of Cabinet Office group, which developed the Business Start-up and Business Expansion Schemes – basis for all subsequent corporate investment tax schemes, culminating in the present Corporate Venturing Scheme.

Financial/Economic Planning

Bloodstock Industry

 

Turnaround of loss-making entity – responsibilities included operational and taxation advice - down-sized operation until profit making.

 

Newspaper Industry

 

Against a background of external predatory influences, successfully turned around the company and restored profitability.

 

World Bank

 

A number of projects for the World Bank, in the following areas: textiles and thread production; banking; and paper manufacture – principally in Turkey. This involved substantial measurement of performance against World Bank investment and budget policies.
