Project
Management

Our Approach
There are four aspects
in our approach to project management - planning, structure,
discipline and training and coaching. |
Planning
The successful completion of any
project comes about largely through careful planning. Not only
should projects be planned individually, but it is essential that an
overview plan is maintained of all projects - the "helicopter"
view. Therefore: |

Projects must be connected to one or more
objective in organisation's long-term strategic plan |

Projects must be constantly prioritised
against each other and against the corporate plan |

Resources required on projects must be
planned to prevent overload before committing to a project |
Structure
Project sponsors and project
managers must be identified and empowered by the organisation |
Discipline
In order that our approach works for an
organisation, there must be a strong sense of discipline from everybody
involved in projects. Therefore: |

All projects must be managed in accordance with the
project management PRINCIPLES |

All projects must be reviewed for the quality of
management and governance on a regular basis (Refer to the QUALITY
MANAGEMENT Principle) |

There must be regular management review of all
projects. (Refer to the GOVERNANCE
Principle) |
Training and Coaching
Initial and follow-up training is an essential
element of our approach. |

Everyone involved in projects needs to be
given training appropriate to their roles |

Everyone needs to be aware of the project
management guidelines and how they apply to themselves |

In the early days, project managers need
coaching to help them implement the guidelines, governance, risk
management and quality assurance culture into the projects they are
managing. The coaching needs to come from people who are
familiar with the approach |

As the organisation absorbs the project
management approach, the guidelines and rules will slowly change and
people will need further training |
