Planning Principle

Planning lies at the heart of successful project management.  There are several approaches to getting started with planning.

The chief difficulties in planning are recognising in advance all the tasks that will need to be done and knowing what level of detail is adequate.  Therefore, a useful trick is to use more than one approach in order to crosscheck the quality of the plan.

Objectives

It should be possible to compare progress against targets.
It should be possible to make everyone impacted by the project aware of what to expect and when.
Any plan should be easy to understand and easy to maintain.

Our Approach

Every project should have clear milestones that mark either moments when important decisions have to be made or when key deliverables have to completed.

very project should include milestones when the project is reviewed and a decision is taken on whether or not the project should be allowed to proceed to the next stage.

Milestones should be clear, comprehensible and recognisable. Milestones should be clearly linked to stakeholder expectations.

There should be no obvious gaps in the tasks listed in the project plan.

Milestones and tasks should be labelled by their outcomes.

Wherever possible, work tasks should be organised as concurrently as possible.

Dates and resources should be identified.

It should be possible to view the plan selectively
