Project Steering Committee's Role

The Steering Committee is chaired by the Project Sponsor and should comprise the project manager and representatives from the main stakeholder groups.  

The Steering  Committee should:

Meet regularly to review progress
Assess and monitor

-

progress
- threats to success
- alternative courses of action
- costs and budgets
- anticipated completion timescales
- potential interdependences
Make decisions on alternative courses of action and re-direct
Ensure that each member is well prepared for Steering Committee meetings
Limit meetings to a maximum of 30 minutes (whenever possible)
Create a clear audit trail for all decisions

Steering Committee Agenda

Each time the Steering Committee meets, it is essential that all its members are properly prepared by having read the reports and consulted their colleagues.

The Steering Committee meeting should use the following agenda:

Achievement of milestones
2 Threats to achievements of milestones
3 Proposals to reduce or avoid risks
4 Costs to date and projected to completion
5 Probability of achieving realisable benefits
6 Steering/re-direction
7 Date of next meeting
