The Project Timeline

All projects must progress through a series of steps.  At each step, there should be a review and approval decision.  These "gateway" reviews are intended to provide a time-out when senior management can take a step back from the hurly-burly of day-to-day business to ask fundamental questions such as:
Is the project still relevant to achieving our overall long-term objectives?
Are the benefits still realisable?
Is the project still achievable?
Have we identified all of the risks?
Have we the staff and budgets to complete the project?
Has the organisation the capacity to absorb the project?
